For over 65 years, the View-Master has been an amazing part of childhoods! It was one of the first ways many of us were introduced to 3D images.
Later this year, Fisher-Price will be releasing digital 3-D images from it’s View-Master image archive! The images will be able to be viewed on a wide variety of hand-held devices and 3D TVs, and will cost $1.99 USD per set. No word on a digital View-Master yet, but that would be great!
Hasbro has already released a device called My3D, which works by displaying images from an iPod touch or iPhone. It sells for about $30 USD.

The new REGZA 553X 3D TV from Toshiba has a display resolution of 4000 x 3000 and can offer a 3D experience from up to 9 angles, all without glasses. The resolution of this TV is about 4 times that of regular HD TVs, which makes finding content for it a problem! Currently, the only movie that will be able to take advantage of the REGZA’s resolution is The Hobbit, due to be completed about a year from now, in December 2012.
The REGZA TV is now out, and currently only available in Japan. It costs a reported $12,000.

One of the first trial broadcasts is set to be the Olympic Games to be held in London in 2012. Many manufactures are offering deep discounts, as much as half-off for 3D sets.
The classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald is getting the screen treatment in 3D. The film is not due for release until December 2012, but no doubt the anticipation for this one will be high. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy.
It will be directed by Baz Luhrmann, who also directed the films Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet, and Strictly Ballroom.

Mario is on the 3Ds! Just a couple of days ago, Super Mario 3D Land for Nintendo 3DS hit store shelves, or “SM3DL” for short! It’s priced at $39.99 USD.
Reviews for the games are very good so far! Try out a new adventure for Mario, the long-lasting favorite game character of millions, for over 25 years now!
Ah, takes me back to my misspent youth playing video games such a Mario Bros., and then Super Mario Bros., in arcades, pizza parlors, and corner stores. I’m talking about the stand-up full size and tabletop models – but the 3DS will be good for now
Time to make some new Super Mario memories! (If Nintendo will send me a 3DS, and some games, I’ll be happy to review them here!) Maybe, if Santa thinks I’ve been good…!

Martin Scorsese’s first foray into 3D will be released later this month. It’s said to employ subtle use of 3D that supports the story, and doesn’t just use 3D for 3D’s sake.
The film is based on the children’s book “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick, and stars Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Asa Butterfield, and Christopher Lee.

The world’s first glasses-free 3D laptop has arrived…but it may not be ready for prime-time. Reviews of the laptop have been mixed, citing that the 3D capabilities didn’t work well, if at all.
The laptop boasts an auto-stereoscopic display of only 15 inches! Still, it allows playback of 3D Blu-ray movies and playing of 3D games with its Nvidia’s 3D Vision feature. Harman-Kardon speakers supply better than average laptop sound.
The weight of the laptop is an issue. It weights in at about 9 pounds.
The cost is about $1700.
The blockbuster film Titanic by James Cameron will be converted to 3D and released in theaters in April of 2012. This is around the time of the 100th anniversary of the actual Titanic ship sinking (but I’m sure the film will not tank!). A few scenes have already been converted to 3D, and received a screening at Paramount Studios yesterday.

Original music by John Williams!
This one is on my “must-see” list.
